I have to say that, against all expectations and possibly my better judgment, I really enjoyed 713. Like, smiled stupidly pretty much the whole way through. Because, you know, of the teasing and the banter and the brotherliness. They even had a bit of classic rock! And Sam making fun of Dean a lot. Old school ep for the win. (Yes, there was some plot stupidity in there, but this is SPN. There's always been some plot stupidity. I maintain that they're really, really good at the overall arcs, and hit or miss for individual eps.)

How much do I love that Sam wasn't angry about Amy, but is scared out of his mind that Dean might get himself killed? And how much do I love that it took Dean's awesomely brotherly your bigger moment to get him to break down and spill it? I love it so much. So very, very much.

I've been among those who felt that Dean's angst overshadowed Sam's issues for the first half, but I really feel that they've done a good job with Sam's emotional headspace in the last little while, and especially this ep. And it's not that they're not still focusing on Dean; it's just that they're doing a better job of integrating Sam's feelings, and that's really all I'm asking for, because it's not like Dean isn't in line to have a bit of a breakdown, or like I don't enjoy Sam all angsty and terrified for him. Though maybe they could also give me a little hell trauma. Maybe with Dean hugging him a lot. Please?

Anyway, the ending! It really reminded me of Fresh Blood, and Sam asking Dean to be his big brother again, just because. Which is awesome in its own right, but it also makes me a bit more hopeful for Dean. I'm not saying we're in line for a Dean turn around, but Sam got through to him in season 3, just like it was Sam who got through to him in Point of No Return. Frank tried this season, and Bobby tried, but if anyone's going to succeed, it'll be Sam.

In conclusion: ♥

Also, now it is football time!

The cases are leaving me pretty meh, lately, but they haven't hit a wrong note for me when it comes to Sam and Dean, and... yeah, I'm just that easy. I love the subtle way they're ratcheting up Sam's tension and intensity. Big points for that, at least from me. :) And Dean has been very endearing the last two episodes. I love his little face a lot right now.

Yeah, I'd like a few scarier cases, but I have enjoyed some of them this season, and I'm with you. If the Sam and Dean stuff is good, I don't care about the rest. And the Sam and Dean has been so much better than I could've hoped for since 710.

I thought it would be unbearably angsty, but they still have each other, and they're really highlighting how much that means. Especially with Sam, who was pretty much yelling at Dean in Friday's ep that he wouldn't be okay if Dean wasn't. And they're just as fond and loving of each other as they always were. I definitely feel like they're still enjoying having each other around, even now.

And you're right about Dean. He's been adorable since it came back, and more Dean-like, somehow.

I keep thinking about this, and about how Dean was trying hard not to care about anything at the beginning of the season, and then Dean's face when he realized Sam was in trouble in "Adventures in Babysitting," and how he told Frank he wasn't going to leave Sam alone. I think he knows it's just a matter of time before Sam falls apart, and that's what he's waiting for. "Me and my Beautiful Mind brother." I feel like he's waiting for the time when that will be an okay option. He's tried to make it without Sam, and Sam's tried to do the reverse, and they both know it doesn't work any more.

Argh, Winchesters.
