Heading out to case the promise land

Dan Harmon has been fired from Community? What hell is this? I don't think it is an overreaction to say that the last episode of season 3 will be the last episode of the real Community. I mean, however good a job the new writers do, it's still not going to be the same show. (And I remember The West Wing after Sorkin. the goodness of the job they do strikes me as a fairly questionable proposition.)

Did I also mention that Chelsea won the Champions' League yesterday? Is there to be no end to the ways in which I am tormented? I demand that the universe begin pleasing me again immediately.

Hey, you know what is not admirable? Kneeing a player in the back because you think you'll get away with it; lying about what happened because you think you'll get away with it; and then admitting you were lying about doing the thing you thought you wouldn't get caught for because you got caught in the lie.

John Terry is, of course, still very heroic and an embodiment of all that is good in sport.

If this marriage proposal is real, it is the least romantic thing I've ever seen. Now, admittedly, I am not known for my tremendous romantic streak, but seriously. I would've been left with no choice but to say no. Dear Lord.

When I first heard about the NYT's reporting of the gang rape of an 11-yo girl, I stupidly assumed the article wouldn't be as bad as it seemed. I was very, very wrong. According to the people quoted uncritically in the article, those poor young men are going to have to live with this for the rest of their lives. And the girl--the 11-yo girl--was dressed too old, and wore makeup. Other things people are concerned about: what the girl's mother was thinking. God knows, its the parenting skills of the alleged victim's mother we should be outraged about, and not the parenting skills of the accused's fathers and mothers.
